MISSION

Upholding the Constitutional Rights of all to liberty, equality, and justice

GOAL 1:           The Wood County Sheriff's Department will monitor law enforcement to protect life and property.

                          Objectives and Activities:

§         Keep and preserve the peace in homes, public places, and in public assemblies

§         Dispatch police, fire, and ambulance services to emergency situations

§         Enforce federal and state laws, and county ordinances

§         Provide traffic enforcement for public safety, including recreational vehicles on land and water

§         Conduct criminal investigations, collect evidence, and apprehend violators

§         Initiate programs and activities that focus on youth, decision-making, and prevention of crime

§         Maintain personal proficiency in the use of all department issued firearms

GOAL 2:           The Wood County Sheriff's Department will properly maintain and administer the jail facility.

                          Objectives and Activities:

§         Operate jail and maintain custody of prisoners in a manner to protect the public

§         Protect the safety of staff and inmates

§         Operate the facility consistent with statutory and constitutional guidelines

§         Keep records as required by the county, state, and federal agencies

§         Provide programming for inmates based on resources available

§         Transport prisoners in a responsible and safe manner

GOAL 3:           The Wood County Sheriff's Department will assist in the safe and lawful functioning of the Wood County Circuit Courts.

                          Objectives and Activities:

§         Attend upon the Circuit Courts of Wood County

§         Serve and execute according to law, all process, writs, precepts, and orders issued and made by lawful authority to the Sheriff

§         Provide security for courtroom proceedings when necessary

§         Escort incarcerated subjects to the courtroom from the jail

§         Transport subjects to and from other facilities on warrants, medical and mental health issues, and special orders from the courts

GOAL 4:           Wood County Sheriff’s Department will maintain specialized and support services developed to maintain the highest level of law enforcement services.

                          Objectives and Activities:

§         Maintain alliance with our multi-jurisdictional Narcotics Enforcement Unit

§         Conduct special investigations as required and assigned by the Sheriff

§         Provide training and assistance to other organizations

§         Maintain a Special Response Team to respond to high risk situations including:

a.      High risk drug search warrants

b.      High risk apprehension warrants

c.      Hostage situations

d.      Suicidal subjects

e.      Assist other agencies on request

§         Maintain a K-9 Unit for:

a.   Narcotic/drug enforcement

b.      Officer protection

c.      Criminal apprehension

d.      Search and recovery

§         Maintain a Sheriff’s Rescue for:

           a.   Search and recovery operations on land and water

b.      Automobile extrication

c.      Medical assistance for EMS

d.      Traffic control

e.      Crime scene containment

f.        Evidence search

§         Maintain a Reserve Deputy Program for Wood County Parks patrol and special events enforcement

GOAL 5:                      Wood County Sheriff’s Department will maintain highly trained employees, ensuring the highest level of safety, service, integrity and ethical standards in our response to our organizational and community needs.

                          Objectives and Activities

§         Maintain timely and relevant training in all divisions to ensure all employees have the needed resources to carry out their responsibilities

§         Provide needed equipment and resources to all employees to assist them in their required duties

§         Maintain a healthy work environment for all employees

§         Make sure all Wood County Sheriff’s Department employees return home safely after each tour of duty
