Wild Animals as Pets
Walking through any zoo, one will find and observe many wild animals. We become mesmerized by their beauty and grace. Some people like to take this one step further and purchase a wild animal without researching its background to include its wants, needs, and the possible dangers it may pose to people and other pets.
Skunks can be de-scented, but they are the number one carrier of rabies in the State of Wisconsin. Many baby skunks are born with the rabies virus.
Potbelly pigs may be cute to you, but they are regarded as swine without distinction from other breeds, and they also carry the same diseases as their larger kin.
Hybrids (a wolf mixed with a German Shepherd or Husky) many feel are the “last of the wild.” However, as these animals mature and grow, they will challenge to become the alpha leader. They look at small animals such as the family cat as prey, and they will urinate throughout the house if kept inside, to mark their territory.
Many municipalities have animal ordinances and you should know what they are. Please think and do your research before you act.
