Summer High Adventure
Each summer the older boys from the troop
can go on a high adventure trip.
This year we have decided to go on a western backpacking trip.
It will be done as the last major requirement in getting the Backpacking Merit Badge.
The trip will take place the week of June 8 through June 18, 2001.
Parent Meeting Minutes - St. Francis Hall, St. John's,
Monday, April 3, 2001
9 were present.
-
The minutes of the March 5 meeting were read and approved.
-
Treasurer's Report: Deb E. reported the balance of the checking account.
The scout shop also has an account balance.
Money will need to be sent to the scout shop later this week.
-
Summer Camp: Tammy reviewed last year's fees.
Last year each scout paid a non-reflindable fee towards camp.
The troop then paid the balance for older scouts.
New scouts paid an additional fee for camp.
Adult leader's paid a deposit, with the troop paying the balance.
The price for Tesomas this year is again the same as last year.
Adult leadership must be preapproved by Scoutmaster Sam Voight.
After much discussion Dave W. made a motion to keep last years formula.
Kay S. seconded the motion.
Motion passed.
In addition, this year adults providing transportation to and/or from
Tesomas will be compensated at a small rate for mileage.
-
Wal-Mart gift certificate: Bev K. made a motion that the
unused gift certificate from last year's Boundry Water trip
be used for this years High Adventure trip to Wyoming.
Deb E. seconded the motion.
Motion passed.
-
Merit Badge Books: Kay S. presented a list she and the troop librarian made
in February.
Since merit badges are constantly changing, books become outdated.
We are looking to increase the number available to the boys to use
especially at camp.
Jared will be contacting families to find out if they have books
they no longer want, but might consider donating to the troop.
We would like to have a true inventory before May 15th so we can
order any books we need before camp.
Tammy N. made a motion to table discusson until the May 7th meeting.
Dave W. seconded the motion.
Motion passed.
-
Leadership patches: Kay S. presented the idea that the scouts really like
to keep that leadership patch they earn rather than to pass them on to the
next scout.
Ex. patrol leader, quartermaster, etc.
Sam v. made a motion that the troop would purchase one patch, per position,
per boy.
If the scout holds the same position, later in the trocp,
he would use his old patch.
If the scout would lose his patch, it would be his responsibility to buy
a replacement.
Dave W. seconded the motion.
Motion passed.
We may end up having uniform inspections after elections to make sure
only scouts holding leadership positions have these patches on their uniforms.
-
Scoutmaster Update: Sam said his goal is to keep the
same level of Scouting going that Paul had developed.
He looks forward to the family backing he now sees
and hopes that it grows to become a second "scout family".
He will be doing silent leadership, planting ideas but having the
scouts develop a comfortable leadership role.
-
Missing Troop Equipment: The troop is missing several items
(tent, cooking items, etc.).
Please check your garage, or kitchen for items that may have been taken
home after an outing for cleaning, but never made it back to the Quartermaster.
Please return items ASAP to complete our inventory.
Wanted: Quartermaster Mentor.
Someone willing to work guiding our quartermaster,
during equipment check in and check out.
-
Richard L. discussed patrol boxes being supplied with basic equipment.
When patrols would go on outings,
then they would use money only to buy food items.
-
Anyone interested in Troop 385 numeral patches should contact Richard L.
He gave the cost for the one patch with all 3 numbers on it.
-
Camp T-shirt: The troop will be pre-ordering camp T-shirts this year.
We are going to Tesomas the second last week of camp,
so they could be sold out before we arrive.
There will be a sign up at the April 9th and April 23rd meetings.
Bev K. made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:10.
Seconded by Deb E.
Motion passed.
Respectftilly submitted by the Troop Secretary
Parent Thought of the Month: It is easier to build a boy than to repair a man.
