other bands, local venues, regional music biz,
Local venues:
The Keg. Serving their on-premise-brewed beers! After his surgery, Ron decided not to reopen the downstairs bar. So music events are a thing of the past, at least for the time being. (Updated 3May04)
The Mission Coffee House. Important and highly supportive venue for alternative rock acts in Middlewisconsinville. Open mikes now on Tuesday nights. All-ages, but unfortunately no longer smoke-free. (Link updated 3May04)
The Witz End. Rest in peace.
Clark Place. Host to some great acoustic acts, as well as blues and rock. Its open mikes are popular events. On Tuesdays it offers a song-share, for those who like to sit around the bar with their instruments. Wednesdays: electric open mike. Thursdays: acoustic open mike. Mad Melancholy Monkey Mind and Keg Salad made their debuts at this venue on Aug. 3, 2002. (updated 3May04)
The Mad Dog. A virtual coffeehouse.
Local and Wisconsin acts:
Alpha Dog. Milwaukee trio with a good groove, whose repertoire includes songs by Point's Amy Hussin. This band may end up superceded by Joey's great new band, Scarlett. (Updated 28Jan04)
Bed. A great jam band based in La Crosse, Bed includes two members of the former Whippoorwil's Secret. (Listed 25Jan04)
Marques Bovre and the Evil Twins. Outstanding songwriter. Strong band. Marques's solo shows are especially worth catching. Incredible Evil Twins reunion show for the closing of Witz End! (Updated 6March04)
Wendy Bugatti. Great Madison-based singer and songwriter. And also:
Bugatti Type 35.
Cyndi and the Troublemakers. Incredible vocals, tasty originals! (Updated 17May04)
Mike Dennis. Founding member of the Stellectrics, now playing with country-folk band Loose Strings. Also performed with Mad Melancholy Monkey Mind on pedal-steel. (Updated 6March04)
Ditz. In their own words, "Ditz are the sugar in your tea one moment -- and the asbestos in your basement the next." They used to be called Glitch, apparently. Why not Asbestos Tea? But what a great band. (News that may be old: Ditz has probably hit the personality-conflict rocks and may be dissolved. 28Jan04)
Electric Automatic. Madison duo: guitar and drums. Dynamic.
James Stanley Howen. Polonia country-style singer-songwriter. (Updated 6March04)
Irene's Garden. The reigning powers of middleofWisconsinville psychofusion jamfunk. An eight-headed creature with a great rythmic sense. Formerly known as the Stellectrics. Now in their final months as a band, with a planned dissolution this spring. (udpated 25Jan04)
The Kissing Saints. A new, promising three-piece. (Listed 28Jan04)
Tim Krogman. Local solo singer and member of Loose Strings. (Listed 11Feb04)
The Lovelies. Another driving Milwaukee threesome, strong on the harmonized melodies and blonde hair.
Monovox. Garageband.com winners, back in that site's glory days.
Moogie. Local old-fashioned R&R band, doing originals. Link is to X-Press Magazine, where photos of Chaz and Ger and Karsten, on stage at The Keg, are hosted. Mike Martin has returned to the drummer's chair during Karsten's absence. (Updated 6March04)
Regional or at least not-so-local acts:
Adrian Belew. Great musician, at one time apparently based here in Wisconsin. Complicated potatoes!
Gild. Excellent upper-Midwest band, doing good work in both studio and on stage. Well-liked in their home digs but woefully under-appreciated here in Middlewisconsinville where they occasionally show up.
Planet Melvin. Great favorites of more people than just us.
Regional music biz:
Sooper Dooper. Bills itself as a one-stop indie band propaganda house. These are the friendly guys -- Darwin, Chris, and, I believe, Joe -- who worked on the M4 "Drive" CD. Located in Madison, Wisconsin.
Crustacean Records. Home for Electric Automatic and others area acts.

Why are small-press publishers being linked from this music-label site? Because Iguanodon Smile is a small press, too; and we're just friendly to these other small-press people.
Zines:
Electric Velocipede. A new small-press zine. Its editor visited the Iguanodon Smile website before it had a counter, and is the official Number Zero. Way to go there, John.
Back Brain Recluse. A great British zine.
Turbocharged Fortune Cookie. A new zine and press: looks ambitious.
Kelp Queen Press. A new press, and an educational website. 50 percent of our brain cells lost, indeed ...
Full Unit Hookup. New zine to check out.
Talebones. Important zine on the scene, edited by a couple of eminently likeable people.
Death By Glitter, a new zine sounding interesting ...
Books:
Ministry of Whimsy. An excellent small press, now a part of Prime books. Original publisher of the Leviathan anthology series.
Prime Books. See above.
Small Beer Press. Great new small press: books, also a great zine. And you just have to like Gavin. What a guy.
